San Diego home values in line with nation's [chart]
By: Lily Leung
Here's a graphical view of how home prices in San Diego County match
up against those nationally using numbers from the widely watched
S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index, which comes out monthly but has a
60-day lag.
Local values have gone up for four straight months but are still
lower than what they were a year ago, a trend seen throughout the
country, Case-Shiller analysts said Tuesday.
As shown in the chart, San Diego's July index was 155.22, up 0.1
percent from June, and higher than the 20-city composite index of
142.77.
The S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index tracks changes in the value
of homes nationally and in 20 major metropolitan regions. The index is
calculated every month and has a two-month lag.
The index's analysts follow repeat sales. That means when a property
sells, they return to that home and find out what it sold previously.
